What Is A Non -Communicable Disease?

In general, each disease can be divided into infectious diseases and non -communicable diseases. Examples of infectious diseases are dengue fever, leptospirosis, TB, and covid 19 where they require vectors or intermediaries to spread. Among the examples of NCD diseases that are often a concern in Malaysia and also around the world are Hypertension (high blood pressure), Diabetes (Diabetes), High Cholesterol, and cancer.

However, there are many other NCD diseases that are rarely talked about including joint diseases such as gout, lung diseases such as COPD, and mental health such as depression. The main factor that causes NCD is a non-healthy lifestyle. These include failure to adopt a balanced diet, not practicing regular exercise, alcohol intake, and smoking habits.

Effect

The effects of NCD are diabetes, high blood pressure, and excess cholesterol. With the presence of one of the diseases mentioned, a person is already at risk of clogged arterial blood vessels, otherwise known as atherosclerosis.

Atherosclerosis or clogged arteries has great implications because it can affect all major organs of the body such as the heart, kidneys, brain, and other parts such as the eyes, other nerves.

Early Prevention

Among the early steps or prevention that can be taken is to adopt a healthier lifestyle in terms of nutrition and regular exercise, and it should also be supported by doing a medical check-up on our own health level.

Encouragement for Malaysians to undergo a health check-up at least once a year to find out the latest health status of themselves. At the same time, it can help us in understanding the changes in our body, so that we can seek treatment or early health consultation from a doctor.

It can be said that early prevention is more important than cure. It is also to prevent any complications that lead to other chronic diseases. By getting the right screening and treatment health services, you are actually moving towards better quality and healthier life without risking yourself into the NCD disease category.
